Website Design Project

Project Description: You will create a website that will host an electronic portfolio of the work and projects completed throughout the year. This will be an ongoing project that will be due at the end of the school year.  This is a project that can be updated and worked on whenever you have free time in class.

Project Requirements:

  • Step 1: Website Critique - view and critique the following websites, fill out the worksheet, and turn in (worth 50 points).
  • Step 2: Explore Hosting Sites - Hosting sites are websites which provide you the ability to create and maintain a personal, business, or organizational website.  There are lots of hosting sites which are FREE (of course they try to get you to buy an "upgraded" version, but you don't need to do this).  Explore and compare the following hosting websites and decide which one you want to use (I don't care which you choose - each offers a little different format and features, so be sure and compare them).
    • www.yola.com (this is the one I used for our art webite, just fyi)
    • www.weebly.com (this one looks really easy to use and I have heard that it's really great)
    • www.sites.google.com (this one is a really popular hosting site  - it's what is used for our school's website)
    • there are lots more - if you want to use one that's not on this list, that's fine - just make sure that they are free!
  • Step 3: Start designing!  Once you have chosen a hosting site, you will need to create an account.  Then the site should walk you through the basics.  You can choose backgrounds, fonts, styles, etc. This is something that you can edit and update as the year goes on. Be creative!!!
  • Step 4: Start adding your projects - after you have a basic website designed and started, you can begin adding pages for each of your projects that we do in class.  Since we have completed 2 major projects so far, you can get started on those two pages.  Note: those of you who printed out the Photocubism project will need to take a digital photo of your project and upload it to your website (you might also need to fix and correct using photoshop before putting it on your site).
