Project #3: Independent Photography Project

During the 1st Quarter we have been focusing on digital photography.  For the final project of this unit, I want you to develop and execute your own independent photography project.  I have listed below some suggestions to help you brainstorm ideas. If you have a different idea than the 4 listed below, you need to get it approved by Mrs. K before beginning.

Ideas for your project:

  1. Self-Portrait: take one or more photographs of yourself, then utilize photoshop to create a digital self-portrait.  Some ideas would be to isolate yourself from the background using photoshop selection  and layer tools, then add a different background to your picture.  You could also add color filters or effects to change the emotional impact of the portrait.  If you are interested in this, check out these website links for inspiration: Photographs of Cindy ShermanYouTube video by Noah Kalina called Everyday in which he took a photograph of himself everyday for 6 years (really amazing), Examples of Digital Self-Portraits by female artists.
  2. Landscape/Nature Photography: take one or more photographs of an outdoor landscape.  You could take photographs of a large landscape, or take some close up views of smaller objects. Look at these sites for inspiration: Landscape Photography Tips, Photographs by Ansel Adams, Photographs of Jeremy Turner, also google "landscape photography" for some good ideas.
  3. Animals: take one or more photographs of animals. They can be pictures of a family pet, or pictures of wild animals - taking pictures of animals can be tricky, so you need to think creatively in regards to how you are going to do it.  Try to come up with some interesting composition - think about getting down on their level.  Look at these sites for inspiration: Really cute website about Pet Photography, Another great pet photography website, Pet Photography Tips, also google "pet photography" for more ideas.
  4. Sports: attend a sporting event and photograph the action.  Put together a slide show which showcases the highlights from the event. Check out these websites: Tips and Tricks to Sports Photography (tons of info here, you just have to read), Bob Martin Sports Photography site, Bob Rosato Sports Photography (click on "collisions" - really cool photos), google "sports photography" for more ideas.

BE CREATIVE!

Think outside the box for this project.
You will get points for creativity!
