Digital Art: Final Semester Project
Principles of Design Posters Project Description: Using photoshop, you will create a poster for each of the principles of design that visually defines each term. Project Rules: · In each poster, the only word you are allowed to use is the name of the principle itself (you are not allowed to define the principle using words). · You are allowed to use pictures, images, or illustrations to show what each of the principles of design mean. · Your initial images need to be separate photoshop documents (size them to be 8x10 inches). · When you complete all of your photoshop images, you will compile them into a power point presentation. · You are NOT allowed to work in partners or groups. · Extra credit will be given to those students who choose to create original drawings or illustrations that define the terms instead of copying and pasting images found online. Project Grading: · This project will be graded on accuracy of the definitions as well as the effort I see you putting forth (please don’t forget about the participation grade you earn everyday in class). · This project will count as half of your semester test grade. The other half of your semester test grade will be the written test on the last day of class (December 21st). Principles of Design: (in no particular order) 1. Contrast 2. Unity 3. Rhythm 4. Repetition 5. Pattern 6. Balance (describe each of the three types – for this one, you may use the three types of balance by using words 7. Emphasis 8. Proportion 9. Movement 10. Variety | Digital Art: Pen & Touch Project
Project Description: Using the pen & touch tool and photoshop, you will create an
original digital drawing. Project Guidelines: · The subject of your drawing may either be a landscape (a place – you may include buildings if you wish) or a person (a portrait or a self-portrait – for this one, you may use a picture as a reference). · You must produce and turn in 3 thumbnail (rough draft) sketches prior to beginning work on the computer. Each of your 3 sketches need to be different – you may not turn in 3 versions of the same thing. Your sketches need to be done in pencil or colored pencil. · After your thumbnail sketches have been checked and approved, you will pick your favorite to transform into a digital image. · You can either scan in one of your sketches and use the pen tool to trace over the sketch in photoshop, or you can open a blank document in photoshop and begin drawing from scratch, using your sketch as a guide for reference. · If you choose to scan in one of your drawings, I can do that for you. You would then create a blank layer on top of your scanned image to do your drawing. When you are finished using your scanned image as a reference, you would delete that layer so that the only layer you have left is the digital drawing. · After you get your initial sketch done, experiment with adding background color, or blocks of color within your sketch (you can do this by using the paint bucket or the gradient tool).
Project Grading: · This project will be graded on the effort I see you putting forth, and the originality and creativity of the drawing. |
