Adobe Illustrator Project

Project Description:  For this project, you will be researching and learning more about adobe illustrator. You will create a tutorial of a specific project, present your tutorial to the class, and publish your tutorial on your website. For this project, you may work with a partner if you choose.  You may also choose to work alone.

Project Directions:

  1. First, go online and research Adobe Illustrator. Open a new Word Document and answer the following questions.  Your answers should be in complete sentences.  Each answer should be at least 2-3 sentences in length. At the bottom of your document, copy and paste the websites that you took your information from.
    1. What is the primary purpose of Adobe Illustrator?
    2. How is Illustrator different from Photoshop?
    3. Define "vector graphics".
    4. Define "raster graphics".
    5. What is the difference between the above two terms?
    6. Does Illustrator use vector or raster graphics?
    7. Does Photoshop use vector or raster graphics?
    8. If I wanted to create a cartoon drawing, would I choose Illustrator of Photoshop?
    9. If I wanted to edit an image I scanned on a scanner, would I choose Illustrator or Photoshop?
    10. Give me 2 examples of projects/artworks that would look better if done in Illustrator instead of Photoshop.
  2. Second, research and choose an Illustrator tutorial that you would like to create for your project.  Use the following websites to get ideas.  You may choose and adapt one of these tutorials for your project, or you may come up with an original idea. Note: extra points will be given for original ideas vs. copying something you find online.
    1. The Best of Adobe Illustrator Tutorials
    2. Designer Today
    3. 50 Illustrator tutorials every designer should see
    4. Illustrator Tutorials
  3. After you choose an idea for a tutorial, you will need to write directions for your tutorial.  These directions need to be clear and easy to understand.  Your goal should be for someone who has little Illustrator experience to be able to understand and follow the directions. Your directions need to be written in Microsoft Word.  These directions will be printed so that everyone in the class will have a copy.
  4. After you complete the directions, you will present your tutorial to the class. In your presentation, you will be expected to explain your tutorial in detail.  If you work with a partner, both partners will be expected to speak in your presentation.

Your project presentations will be Thursday and Friday, February 3rd and 4th.
Make sure you are ready to present your projects on those days.
